Women In Defence recognises Leonardo employees at Inspired by Mentoring Awards

25 June 2026

Suki Kaur, a UK Quality Manager for Leonardo, has been named ‘Most Committed Mentee of the Year’ at the ‘Inspired by Mentoring Awards’ organised by Women in Defence UK.

As part of Leonardo’s commitment to promoting gender balance across the defence industry, the company was one of the original signatories of the Women in Defence Charter, and has been a long-term participator in the organisation’s mentoring programme. Over the last five years, more than 100 employees have been mentees and mentors on the scheme.

Having joined the mentoring programme in October 2025, Suki says it has allowed her to “grow both personally and professionally, build strong networks across the industry, become an active part of the Women in Defence community, and champion diversity and inclusion.”

In their summation, the judges said they were “impressed with Suki’s immense dedication and, most importantly, how wonderfully you embody the spirit of this mentoring programme.”

“Since joining Leonardo, the company has continually invested in my development – from Springboard and leadership programmes to the Women in Defence Mentoring. Each opportunity has pushed me out of my comfort zone, built my confidence and expanded my professional toolkit,” reflects Suki.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my Women in Defence mentorship, largely thanks to my remarkable mentor, Warrant Officer Terry Cherrington. This award belongs to both of us. He has been incredibly supportive, offering continual advice and guidance whilst showing enthusiasm and dedication. He created a safe space for me to speak openly, sharing his immense expertise and people-focused approach throughout this journey.”

Additionally, Ross Wilson, VP Engineering at Leonardo, was named runner-up in ‘Most Inspirational Mentor of the Year’ category. The judging panel recognised Ross’s “dedication to both your mentoring programme and mission” and were “particularly inspired by how you empowered your mentee to achieve remarkable progress.”

Leonardo’s UK VP Talent Development Inclusion & Change, Nerys Thomas, said: “Congratulations to Suki and Ross on their respective achievements. Both have demonstrated their full commitment to mentoring – on each side of the fence – demonstrating the value to be gained acting as a mentor and equally as a mentee. The continued positive engagement and feedback we get from Leonardo employees involved in the Women in Defence mentoring programme demonstrates the immense value it delivers in a range of ways to all those participating.”
