ASGARD Digital Decision Accelerators for Defence (DDAD) Open Framework

Leonardo is a qualified supplier under the UK Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) ASGARD Digital Decision Accelerators for Defence (DDAD) Open Framework.

ASGARD is a CGS-sponsored initiative focussed on increasing the Army’s lethality through accelerating capability development and exploiting innovation through industry partnerships. This will not only contribute to operational capabilities today but in the uncertain future that faces us.

Leonardo understands that today’s modern battlefields demand user-centricity and pace. Working alongside the MOD as a Mission Partner enables comprehensive understanding of “the art of the possible” and provides assurance in getting the right capability in the hands of the warfighter. Leonardo is qualified in two lots:

Lot 1. Data Integration

This focuses on advanced data integration capabilities beyond traditional Extract-Transform-Load or Extract-Load-Transform methods. Solutions will offer configurable connectors, orchestration tools, real-time ingestion, and metadata-driven management.

Leonardo will deliver a solution that addresses the automation of the G2 Analyst process within the targeting cycle, focussing on minimising human intervention while maintaining accuracy and timeliness. Our solution addresses the core challenges of:

  • Data Variety, Volume, Veracity, Velocity, and Value: The solution must handle diverse sensor data formats, large data volumes, and ensure data quality and trustworthiness.
  • Operational Environment: The battlespace is dynamic and contested, with connectivity ranging from disconnected to degraded and intermittent. 
  • Hardware Constraints: The architecture is designed for three hardware tiers – Enterprise, Standard and Edge, each with varying compute and storage capabilities. The solution is tailored to operate efficiently across all tiers. Our solution is based on our proven Forge2Know and NEUTRINO[SA1.1] data platforms, adapted for the specific environmental constraints. In the context of our solution, these are leveraged to provide an Enterprise, Standard and Edge stack, which together and in isolation address the various elements of the operational requirement in Degraded, Intermittent and Limited conditions.

Lot 5. Services

This includes expert services to support technology adoption and integration across all other lots, including technical training, architecture consulting, synthetic data support and proof-of-concept development.

Leonardo’s offering for Lot 5 will support technology adoption and integration across Lots 1 to 4 (Data Integration, Accelerators, Applications, and Edge Storage and Compute) via provision of expert services including (but not limited to) technical training, architecture consulting, governance oversight, synthetic data support and proof-of-concept development.

These capabilities will be led from the Information Advantage team; taking the expertise our business has across Sense, Decide, Effect and Integrated Mission System capabilities. Fundamentally, we understand that DDAD success will rely on critical transition of competency across Lots 1-5, into mission-ready capabilities.
