Leonardo employees, along with veterans and suppliers from Hellios and Route Zero, planted 2,000 trees in journeyed to Newbury, Berkshire, connecting the previous row planted by Leonardo and Carma earlier this year. Once established, this new hedgerow will provide a biological corridor to the woodland for nature to thrive.
Another 2,000 trees were planted by Leonardo staff, veterans and volunteers from Kuehne + Nagel in Yeovil, creating vital new habitats for wildlife while increasing the site’s natural ability to absorb carbon.

Loris Buffon, Sustainability Lead for Leonardo's UK Helicopter business, said: “We felt proud to work alongside the veterans planting a local range of sapling trees. Planting 4,000 trees will help us create resilient and dynamic habitats, working towards our goal of achieving net zero for our operations (Scope 1 and 2) by 2030.”
Since 2024, Leonardo has planted over 16,000 trees in the UK, supporting the Group Sustainability Plan. This planting will establish new habitats and create Biodiversity Net Gain – a planning and land management approach to making a measurable improvement on existing biodiversity.
The activity underscores Leonardo UK’s wider sustainability commitment, which includes reducing direct and indirect emissions by 40% by the end of 2025 against a 2018 baseline.
Jim Holland, Co-Founder of Carma, said: “Days like these are why we built Carma. Seeing veterans and Leonardo employees working side by side, planting thousands of native saplings that will protect wildlife and strengthen the local ecosystem for decades is incredibly special."
