Future Combat Air System (FCAS)

The Future of Combat Air

For more than a decade, Leonardo has been playing a central role as part of a national endeavour to develop the UK’s future combat air system (FCAS) capability.

This capability – comprising a mix of crewed aircraft, uncrewed platforms, next generation weapons, networks and data sharing, and support and training – will ensure the UK remains a global leader in combat air and maintains the sovereign skills required to meet the global security challenges of the 21st century.

The technology behind this next-generation combat air capability is developed by Team Tempest which brings together the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) and best of breed UK industry partners comprising BAE Systems, Leonardo, MBDA and Rolls Royce.

The core platform at the heart of the UK FCAS is being developed by the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP).

There are currently over 3,500 people working on FCAS initiatives across all regions of the UK.

Learn more about the active role Leonardo is playing in defining the future capability that will help ensure that the UK remains a world-leader in the combat air sector.
