Leonardo announced its ambitious global Industrial Plan for 2024-2028 in March, outlining a strategic roadmap for the next five years. The plan emphasises a crucial shift in the company’s business model, focusing on broader security solutions enabled by significant technological advancements. This evolution will involve massive digitalisation, domain interoperability, and the adaptation and integration of artificial intelligence.
The announcement coincided with our participation in the UK Government’s Security and Policing 2024 event, where we showcased our latest cutting-edge technologies in advanced sensors, communications and cyber security for key stakeholders such as the UK Ministry of Defence, Home Office and NATO.
Scott Bartlett, UK Head of Capability Development - Cyber Security & Resilience, shared his insights on the potential of artificial intelligence to revolutionise the defence sector. However, he also highlighted the associated security risks and emphasised the importance of developing innovative and secure AI solutions.
We celebrated International Women’s Day on 8 March by highlighting the achievements of inspiring female current and former employees who embody our commitment to diversity and inclusion. The diverse range of roles that women play within our company was shown through articles by Hwajeong Kim, Head of Business Management at Leonardo’s Korean branch; Sheetal Vanka, a Principal Consultant at Leonardo’s Cyber & Security business; and Hannah Knobbs, a former Leonardo employee who is now a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) First Officer at Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.
Our community engagement efforts continued with the sponsorship of the Yeovil Half Marathon, demonstrating our close connection with local events and initiatives. We also organised Leonardo’s first official community volunteering day, where employees gave their time to support local charities and community projects.
To cap off the month, we announced a partnership with the University of Lincoln on the new Military Electronic Mission Protection (MEMP) course. This partnership will see Leonardo’s Lincoln Academy provide selected international students with the accredited skills in mission data analytics needed to protect aircraft and their crews from ground-based and airborne threats.
