The ‘Typhoon Total Availability eNterprise’ (TyTAN) is a 10-year support solution for the Royal Air Force Typhoon fleet. It is aimed at improving aircraft availability while reducing the costs of operating the fleet based at RAF Coningsby and RAF Lossiemouth by more than a third.
The cost savings, estimated to be over £500M, will be reinvested into the future Typhoon development and capability upgrades.
A Key Partnership
Signed in 2016, TyTAN brings together suppliers from across Europe into a single programme. As part of the agreement, Leonardo is working alongside BAE Systems and the Royal Air Force to deliver the Joint Avionics Service (JAS). This will see our company support all of the Typhoon fleet’s avionics equipment until 2026.
Leonardo contributes more than 60 per cent of the avionics for the Typhoon including leading the consortia responsible that develop the aircraft’s radar, infrared search and track sensors, and its electronic warfare defensive aid suite.
The company has a track record in delivering cost-saving support packages for Typhoon. Leonardo also provides the maintenance service for Italian Air Force Typhoons, based on aircraft availability, which has proven to be a great success.
