Falcon Shield

The Multi-Domain Falcon Shield C-UAS ecosystem is Leonardo’s operationally-proven high assurance Counter-Uncrewed Air Systems (C-UAS) capability. Rapidly deployable, scalable and modular, it addresses the threat from Class 1-3 Uncrewed Air Systems (UAS).

With a highly flexible and configurable system, Falcon Shield enables operators to accurately detect, track, identify and defeat threats through a fully integrated suite of sensors and effectors.

 

Falcon Shield uses an open architecture approach to integrate with the best-of-breed sensors and effectors, specific to a customer's requirements. This includes electrooptical and infrared sensors, radars and Electronic Support Measures (ESM), all of which provide 360-degree protection.

Command and Control (C2) systems, including Leonardo’s HYAS C2, prioritises the most potent threats at significant range to give operators the most amount of time to defeat incoming drones using both hard and soft kill effectors.

It can be used for: the security and protection of military forces and bases; to protect critical infrastructure and facilities; safety at public, national and government events; and for sector, zonal or wide area security and surveillance.

Specific configurations of Falcon Shield are currently in use by the UK’s Royal Air Force, the Royal Canadian Air Force, the Italian Air Force and Army, as well as other European and international customers.

Reliably detecting, identifying, tracking and defeating rogue drones is only possible with a layered, modular system. Falcon Shield integrates world-leading sensors and effectors to protect people and places around the globe.

The RAF Regiment operates a UK military version of Falcon Shield called ORCUS. It entered service in 2018 in response to drone sightings at Gatwick Airport, and has since seen extensive use in the UK and on operations overseas. 

Falcon Shield protects critical national infrastructure, high-profile events and our Armed Forces on operations. Its world-leading sensors and effectors are trusted with the ever-evolving threat of Uncrewed Air Systems (UAS).

Falcon Shield can protect fixed sites, operate from a deployable container, or as a truly mobile C-UAS capability – protecting vehicles on the move. Data can be shared between systems to provide operators with a more comprehensive air picture.
