Milan,  20 February 2023 15:07

On Monday 27 February, at the STEP FuturAbility District in Milan, the immersive exhibition “Looking Beyond” will be presented in the presence the President of AIDAA-Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Erasmo Carrera, the President of the Italian Space Agency, Giorgio Saccoccia and the CEO of Leonardo, Alessandro Profumo. The exhibition “Looking Beyond” is promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) together with the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and Telespazio/e-GEOS of the Leonardo group.

Looking Beyond”, presented in Milan in a digital edition, will enable the visitor to experience around 60 spectacular images of our planet acquired by the satellites of the Italian constellation owned by ASI and the Italian Ministry of Defence, COSMO-SkyMed. Divided into four themes – agriculture, city, climate change, and water – the exhibition offers an innovative itinerary through the aid of video walls, projections and 3D effects. The initiative will offer an opportunity to reflect on the contribution of satellite technologies to Earth observation, the promotion of sustainable development, and the protection of natural and cultural heritage.

It is only possible to visit the exhibition and explore Earth observation from Space on Monday 27 February 15, 2023 from 13:00 to 19:00 (free admission)

The exhibition is part of the integrated promotion of Italy and the “Made in Italy” initiatives and has been on display for a few weeks in over 50 countries at various Italian diplomatic offices.

The initiative represents a new step towards IAC 2024, the 75th edition of the International Astronautical Congress, the most important international event in the space sector, which Milan will host from 11 to 18 October 2024.

With the motto "Responsible Space for Sustainability", IAC 2024 will also aim to raise awareness of the international community for a more conscious and responsible use of space technologies, among the best allies of environmental sustainability and for the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Over 8,000 experts will gather at the Milan Congress Center (Allianz MiCo) during the 75th International Astronautical Congress, who will also discuss how to keep space a safe environment, open to exploration and to its peaceful use as well as open to the international cooperation from the current and future generations, for the planet’s sake.

Milan's candidacy to host IAC, declared as the winner in October 2021, was promoted by AIDAA, ASI and Leonardo, respectively representing the Italian academia, institutions and space industry, with the contribution of AIM Group International, and decisively supported by the Government, the Presidency of the Lombardy Region and the Mayor of Milan.
